Admission of Children with Disabilities
It is the policy of Small World Preschool to ensure that all of our goods, services, facilities, privileges, and accommodations are meaningfully accessible to qualified individuals with disabilities in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act. However, our staff is neither trained nor professionally capable to provide and address children with specialized needs. Small World Preschool reserves the right to determine whether the child may be best served in another setting where these specialized services are available. We will provide persons with disabilities an equal opportunity to participate in or benefit from services as afforded to other individuals. Small World Preschool will take all other actions necessary to ensure equal opportunity for persons with disabilities in accordance with the ADA and all other applicable federal, state, and local laws.

Information pertaining to an individual child and/or the parent/guardian of the child shall not be disclosed to persons other than the facility staff unless written permission (form is available from the preschool) is granted by such parent/guardian for any such disclosure OR an emergency arises. All information is kept strictly confidential.
Mandated Reporter Law
In the event that any staff member has reason to believe that child abuse and/or neglect has occurred or has suspicion thereof shall immediately report the known or suspected child abuse/neglect directly to the Hawaii Department of Human Services or to the Police Department. The initial report filed with the Dept. of Human Services will be then followed with a written report and then investigated by the Dept.; they in turn will submit their findings to law enforcement. All reports shall include information pertaining to the child and the child’s parents/guardian, along with the nature and extent of the child’s injuries/neglect and any other information that may be relevant to the investigation.
General Information & Admissions Documents
The parent/guardian agrees to read and familiarize her/himself with all general information as provided by Small World Preschool. Further the parent/guardian will acknowledge ALL of the terms and conditions set forth. The parent/guardian also understands and agrees that if they, or the child, fail to comply with and uphold the standards of Small World, in addition to the abuse of any policy of the preschool, or breach of any term of the Parent/Guardian Agreement & Registration Form (provided by the school), the child may then be subject to dismissal from the preschool with and/or without any prior notice. The parent/guardian also understands that the preschool reserves the right to make any policy revision(s) and/or addition(s) at its discretion. Such changes shall be made in writing and shall be distributed to the parent/guardian accordingly. It shall be the responsibility of the parent/guardian to become fully aware of any such revisions, and agree to abide by such.
Suspension & Expulsion Policy
There may be circumstances when the preschool determines that a child will need to be removed/dismissed from attending school. This is sometimes a result of a child’s situation where the staff proceeds to re-direct, re-assess, give repeated verbal warnings and application of consequences due to their behavior. The preschool documents these occurrences, parents are notified accordingly, and parent-teacher conferences scheduled. An expulsion action; time allotted to the parent to address the child’s behavior is determined by the school, along with the expected behavioral change required to maintain the child’s attendance at school. Other actions that may warrant suspension/expulsion are:
- Failure to adhere to school policies and procedures; especially payment and pick-up policy.
- Repeated occurrences of disrespectful behavior and actions, along with uncontrollable tantrums and angry outbursts.
- Intimidating behavior, physical and verbal abuse to staff and others.
- Indifference/no response or actions taken to address our concerns.
- Failure for the child to acclimate and adjust to our structured environment.
- Indifference or no response/action to Preschool’s expressed concerns.
